Dear Parents,
Welcome to an exciting year in Kindergarten! This year your child will learn and grow, become a reader, a writer, and learn math.
It is my philosophy that teaching is a team effort between, you, the parent and me, the teacher. By reinforcing at home what we are doing in the classroom you will help your child succeed in school.
The best thing that you can do is READ to your child everyday for at least 20 minutes a day. You can break up the time into smaller chunks of 5-10 minutes at a time, or do all 20 at once, that is up to you and your child. Reading to your child is one of the best ways to help him/her learn to read; it also helps them to learn new words, and is a great excuse for some cuddle time.
I would like some volunteers to come in and read with the students in class individually. It is my hope to have at least one person for each day of the week, or at least 5 volunteers. If you are able to come in at least once a week for about an hour a day please let me know as soon as possible. You will need to fill out a background check form on the Salem Keizer School District website if you have not already done one in the last 3 years.
Homework is an important part of learning to be a good student. In October I will begin sending home “book bags” with flashcards and leveled books for your child to practice at home and return each day. We are using Scootpad this year. Your child will have a specific log in account, that I will get to you by mid-September, which will help me track his/her progress throughout the year.
Library days will be each Tuesday. Your child may check out one book a week. He/she needs to return the book by the following Monday in order to check out another at our class library time. If you loose track of a book over the course of the year please let me, or the library assistant know as soon as possible.
Drop off is between 9:00-9:15 for the AM class each day at the main school doors. If your child arrives after 9:15 they will need to get checked in at the office by an adult before coming to the classroom. This insures that our attendance records are correct each day.
Pick up is at 11:45 for the AM class. Students who ride the bus will be dropped off at the bus each day by a teacher.
Students being picked up will meet their ride in the upper parking lot.
Drop off is between 12:45-1:00 for the PM class each day at the classroom door. . If your child arrives after 1:00 they will need to get checked in at the office by an adult before coming to the classroom. This insures that our attendance records are correct each day.
Pick up is at 3:30 for the PM class. Students who ride the bus will be dropped off at the bus each day by a teacher.
Students being picked up will meet their ride in the upper parking lot.
If you have any other questions please feel free to email me anytime, or call me at the school Monday-Friday.
Thank you for supporting your child through this exciting year of learning and growing.
